Music Visualizer for YouTube and HTML5 Video
See your music move with live Blocks, Frequency, and Music Tunnel effects
A music visualizer is a real-time graphic effect that draws animated shapes from an audio signal, bars, waveforms, or tunnels that move in time with the sound. The free Turn Off the Lights browser extension renders one directly on top of any HTML5 video player, so a YouTube music video, a Vimeo concert, or a podcast player all get a living light show without installing a separate app.
Three visualization styles
The Audio Visualization feature listens to the video's sound through the browser's Web Audio API AnalyserNode and paints the result on a canvas layer above the video. You choose the style in the Options page:
- Blocks, a wall of colored blocks that rises and falls with the beat, the classic equalizer look.
- Frequency, a live spectrum graph of the audio frequencies, from deep bass to high treble, drawn frame by frame.
- Music Tunnel, a rotating tunnel of light that pulses and breathes with the music, made for full-screen listening sessions.
Each style's background opacity is adjustable, so the effect can be a subtle shimmer over the video or a bold effect that fills the player. And because the visualization is a button on the same video toolbar as the Video Speed Controller and Mousewheel Volume Control, you can switch it on for one song and off for the next without leaving the page. It even works inside the floating Picture-in-Picture video, where the Music Visualization keeps playing in its own mini player.
How to enable the Audio Visualization
- Install the free Turn Off the Lights extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari, or your favorite browser.
- Right-click the gray lamp button in your browser toolbar and choose Options.
- Open the Visual Effects section, enable the Audio Visualization, and pick Blocks, Frequency, or Music Tunnel.
- Play any HTML5 video, the visualization appears as a live overlay on the video player.
Where it works
The Audio Visualization runs on standard HTML5 video players, so it works on YouTube, YouTube Music, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and most other sites that play HTML5 video or audio in the browser. Pair it with Atmosphere Lighting, the glow that radiates around the video frame, for a full ambient listening setup, and dim the rest of the page with the lamp button for the complete Turn Off the Lights experience.
