Is it not possible to install the “Turn Off the Lights” Edge extension because a failure occurs during the installation and then the message “The application has encountered a problem. Reinstall it to repair” appears on your Windows Store or Microsoft Edge web browser.

Solution

Here below is the solution to get back the “Turn Off the Lights for Microsoft Edge” in your web browser:

  1. Open Powershell as admin.
  2. Type: “Get-AppxPackage *TurnOfftheLightsforMicrosoftEdge* | Remove-AppxPackage” without the quotes this will unsintall pocket. You can try skipping step 3.
  3. Type: “Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}” without the quotes.
this will reinstall all stock apps including the Windows Store
  4. Now you should be able to install Pocket through the Windows Store.

Note: Replace *TurnOfftheLightsforMicrosoftEdge* in step 2 with *extensionname* (example: pocket extension).
